“Aging Lite:  Investment Principles for Your Health”

Guest: Anne Palmer

www.aginglite.com

Anchoring Points:

  1. Acknowledging that we are aging, but doing it “lite.”  We don’t have to just barrel into it – we can hold off some of those years and feel our way into a different emotional space.

  1. During a career development interview within my company and at a time when I was caring for my aging mother-in-law, I talked about a caregiver resource guide that I wanted to write to help the 25% employees in this role, which led to an outreach program and my pursuing a masters in gerontology.  My journey continues to unfold.

  1. While we do financial planning for major life events, few do the planning to be able to physically get there.  Look at your health from a long term perspective – and ask the right questions of your full lifestyle.  Set a longevity goal, where you want to live with community and friends in your later years, and then interim goals with plans in place to get there, outside of responding to near catastrophic events.

  1. The Aging Lite workbook  focuses on:  a) nutrition and healthy eating, b) exercise with joy in a partnership, doing what you like to do with others to hold you accountable/be a role model for others, c) getting baseline and routine screening data as a “report card” for blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density, colon scans, mammography, d) the power of mental attitude, e) social contact and community involvement, e) the impact of smoking and alcohol.

  1. Women need to pay attention to what they are doing for themselves, light a fire and learn more.  Don’t allow life to get in the way.

  1. My passion is to get this word out to women, to change thinking beyond living day-to-day, and not underestimate the necessity and positive opportunity to apply the principles for aging lite.
